Nobody sees your passwordIt is used only in your browser to open the file. We never know it.

    How to do it

    1. Load the PDFAnd choose Protect.
    2. Type the password and choose permissionsRepeat the password to avoid typos. Untick what you do not want to allow.
    3. Protect and downloadThe PDF comes out encrypted. Without the password nobody can open it, not even us.

Why do it in your browser

When you protect a PDF on a traditional site, the password you choose travels to the server with the file. Here encryption happens in your browser: the key is never transmitted.

    Frequently asked questions

    Which encryption does it use?

256-bit AES, the strongest in the PDF standard.

    Are permissions always honored?

Most PDF readers honor them, but not all. The open password is a real protection.

    Can it contain any character?

Any except the comma, due to a limitation of the engine that encrypts the file.

All the work is done by your browser. We store no files and know no passwords.
